Mentionkit vs Octolens
Mentionkit and Octolens both help teams monitor social mentions.
The big difference is execution style: broad coverage depth vs cleaner day-to-day operator workflow.
Let's be honest..
Octolens is a strong tool if broad platform coverage is your top priority. But the base plan start at a WHOPPING $149 per month.
Setup
Mentionkit and Octolens both have a enter-your-landing page type setups. Very easy to get started and you get a nice list of recommended keywords.
They are both equally good - no questions here.
They both also support AI relevance. Basically if you track a common word like "cereal", Octolens and Mentionkit will classify all cereal mentions and give you the most relevant ones.
They both also support AI generated comments. We're slightly biased as our comments generated are much more human sounding. But YMMV.
UI
Octolens and Mentionkit both have similar UIs. They are both easy to use and easy to enter and modify keywords.
We're a bit biased as we think our product is better, but tbh for most people UI won't matter.
Pricing
Here's where things are drastically different. Octolens starts from $149 per month which puts it on the range of higher tier social listening tools such as brand24, brandwatch, Talkwalker, etc. Enterprisely tools.
Mentionkit starts from $20 per month, making it much more affordable for smaller brands, ecom, indie solopreneurs and smaller marketing agencies.
Platforms
Octolens supports more platforms here - no doubt about that. They are somewhat dev focused with Github, Stackoverflow, etc supported
Mentionkit supports all the top level social medias but not to the extend that Octolens does. But we're slowly catching up 😉
API
Octolens has both a API and a MCP. They started supporting this recently and is available on all their plans.
Mentionkit also has a API available on all plans. We don't have a MCP, yet. But we will add it soon enough.
Conclusion
If you want the broadest source coverage and deep keyword controls, Octolens is a strong option. If you want simpler execution and follow-through for teams, Mentionkit is the better fit.
