Mentionkit vs F5Bot

F5Bot is useful. It has been around for years and it does exactly what it says on the tin - free Reddit keyword alerts.

Unfortunately its practically useless for any serious brand.

UI

F5Bot doesn't have a list view of your mentions. Once it receives a mention, it simply sends you an email, that's it!

Mentionkit has a list view for managing all your mentions. For each mention, you can also mark it as "done" or "declined".

Mentionkit also gives each mention a relevance score from 1 to 5. A score of 1 means low relevance. A score of 5 means the mention is actionable and worth reviewing now.

You can also invite your teammates, VAs, etc to your Mentionkit account and let them see and respond to mentions.

F5Bot simply has nothing like these features. Its very barebones.

Platforms

F5Bot supports Reddit and Hackernews.

Mentionkit supports Reddit, Hackernews, X, Linkedin and other platforms. More platform support coming on the way!

The winner here is clearly Mentionkit.

API

Apparently F5Bot has a API but its documentation buried somewhere in their pages. I cannot even find it. And it starts at a very high price of $69.99 per month.

So no bueno.

Look, the free plan is great and if you just want to casually monitor Reddit, it will work great for you. The keyword limit is a whopping 200 so you'll probably never need to upgrade.

And the power plan just boggles my mind. You can just make another F5Bot account if you're going to go over 200 keywords - and save some money.

But it is so lacking in features, platform support, API docs, etc that you're just better off going with Mentionkit.

Conclusion

Choose F5Bot for simple alerts. Choose Mentionkit when you need AI filtering and a workflow to review, assign, reply to, and report on mentions.
